Rearranged Covid affected games ... why can't Everton play Man City tonight?
|
The Man City test results will be in and any players needing isolation will have been sent home. The billionaires have 14 players left presumably .... 6pm kick off at Goodison. Why not?

Most elite professional athletes in peak condition should not require intensive care. Though I understand Saint Maxim & Lascelles of Newcastle are still incapable of training 2 months after contracting this KILLER VIRUS
Wash your hands and switch to a full face tin foil helmet , Ronnie

Everton have an unfair advantage due to having the Man City game called off so wouldn’t be the end of the world to have this game called off. Would mean we have no excuse not to put out a full strength side at Stockport and have a real go at the FA Cup

You do start to lose the level playing field with some games being called off while others go ahead. We had two keepers on the bench at Chelsea, should we have cancelled the game?
Football probably needs to take a break.

So much for the media trying to prove that the Premier league is bigger than covid.

News emerging from Everton's Goodison Park, is that members of staff there have been told there is an extreme likelyhood that their Barclays Premiership game, against West Ham scheduled for New Year's Day, will not go ahead due to the expotential increase in the new Covid -19 variant, a development that has seen many games in the top flight cancelled already, the most recent being Fulham's match away to Tottenham at White Hart Lane, which was cancelled just three hours before the kick off.

Good on Everton for challenging the decision to postpone their game. Sky criticised Everton for doing this. Sky are in bed with premier league though.
I think there needs to be more evidence from teams around the positive tests. All too convenient to cancel in middle of fixture pile up. Rumour was it’s only ederson who was additional player . Rest all back room staff
City also don’t have forfeit their league cup tie even though Leyton Orient had to earlier in the season.
Fulham also a strange one. Parker said yesterday no issues at Fulham. Players fit etc. Hour later they ask for game to be postponed.

Said at the time they had Everton away and Chelsea away with Jesus ill and Aguero still not fully fit. A break til both are ready will be very useful. Two defeats with no strikers would probably end their title chances Very convenient

At the very least when Everton's game was postponed our game with them should have been moved to next Monday. We playing 3 games in 5 days and then have an unofficial mid winter break of 10 days til Stockport. Suspect after Everton we will give Rice and Soucek a 15 day break til Burnley

How many have tested positive? Jesus and Walker and 2 members of staff? So a pretty similar situation to us when we had 2 players out and our manager?
This is likely nothing to do with them struggling with covid cases, and everything to do with Pep wanting a winter break for his players, I reckon.

Hadn’t thought about the adverse effect on us actually. Doesn’t seem fair does it.
A fully rested Everton get us who will be playing our third game in five days.
This one will be rearranged at a far more manageable and beneficial time for both Everton and City, but of course will be even more beneficial for City.

Had the impression that Newcastle have been similarly depleted and have just got on with it. Man City with a squad of 25 internationals were able to call off a game at 4 hours notice. Everton annoyed at not playing a depleted Man City ... less annoyed at having a game against us on Friday when we have played last night.

Big club innit.
If it were Sheffield United or West Brom they’d just be told to get on with it.
